The best of Volvo construction-Volvo L120C and Volvo A40D

Volvo Motors is world renowned for the innovative safety features in their cars however few would know that they also produce world class construction equipment. For this very reason, Volvo Construction Equipment was created in 1973. It immediately rose to the top of the construction equipment throne. They also started a rental arm for their equipment in 2001, namely Volvo Rents.

Two of its construction equipment specials, which overshadow the others, are the Volvo L120C and the Volvo A40D. The former is a whee loader and is quite capable one. It has an enclosed cabin which protects the operator from the elements. The huge glass area also gives a best all round vision and makes the Volvo L120C easy to manouever. Its cabin was also cooled and heated according to preferences. There were some creature comforts like the GP bucket seats and their adjustability function for comfort. It sported the Volvo TD 73 KDE with an output of 208 Hp and tip load of 11510 kg on the full turn. The operating weight is 20200 kg. The gear shifter was the APS II one with four different gear shifting modes. This engine in the Volvo L120C was a low emission one with a Swing out radiator. The braking system was also an industry first, with fully hydraulic Wet disc brake system having internal circulation cooling.

The Volvo A40D is Volvo’s Articulated Hauler. It had a cab which was designed for comfort, high operator visibility and ease of ergonomics. To reduce vibrations, it had Isolation rubber pads. There is also Multi-level air outlets, four speed fan, filtered fresh air and pressurized cab to have a healthy clean atmosphere. The operator’s seat in the Volvo A40D was also adjustable with flameproof upholstery and back seat belt. The cabin also had Dash-mounted Operator’s Communication System, Overhead console for radio and storage bins. The engine used is an inline 6-cylinder, direct injected, electronically controlled,

inter cooled 4-cycle low emission, turbo charged diesel engine which had overhead camshaft, valves and wet replaceable cylinder liners. It made 420 Hp. The brakes used were the exhaust and compression brakes which were supported by Volvo Engine Brake {VEB}. It also featured a Volvo terrain bogie which had high ground clearance and individually oscillating axles.
